PDS Academy has over 10 years’ experience running ski instructor courses and are now proud to be offering that high quality training in Zermatt. We provide ski instructor courses at all levels and will help our instructors-in-training progress all the way up the ladder.

The British Association of Snowsport Instructors (BASI) is recognised worldwide as a provider of the highest quality professional snowsport teachers. The BASI qualifications give ski instructors the opportunity to gain employment throughout the world. The training provided will however be suitable for a whole range of Instructor Qualifications including, IASI, Swiss Snowsports, PSIA, NZSIA and many more.

This program includes all On and Off Snow Training, Academy Jacket, Weekly German Lessons, Monthly Team Event. 

It does not include your lift pass, travel, accommodation and insurance. Once you are a member of the team, you will be eligible for a reduced season lift pass and we will assist you in finding accommodation alongside our other trainees.

Instructor Levels

The Level 1 instructor course is the first step on the ladder towards your career as a snowsport instructor. The hard work starts here!

What should I know in advance?

Before applying for the Level 1 instructor course, you must be able to confidently complete the following:

  • Ski parallel under a variety of conditions
  • Ski parallel on red runs, making rhythmical turns close to the fall line at a steady pace
  • Completed at least 16 full weeks of skiing
What will I learn?

On the Level 1 instructor course you will be coached and assessed on the following disciplines:

  • Your ability to complete technical skills such as the central theme, piste short and piste long
  • Your ability to teach, understand and analyse the central theme
  • Delivery, including communication and providing feedback
  • Safety principles and people management
What will I need?

The Level 1 instructor course is a five day programme completed in either an artificial  environment in the UK or in the mountains. We would strongly suggest you are equipped with the following basic items:

  • Strong, comfortable ski boots
  • Warm, waterproof jacket
  • Layered clothing
  • Water and light snacks

The Level 2 instructor course is designed push you to the next level of your instructor training. Putting into practise the invaluable skills you developed at Level 1; you will focus on specific terrain training, advance group management skills and the importance of setting and reviewing goals.

What should I know in advance?

To be able to apply for the Level 2 instructor course, you must be able to demonstrate you have achieved the following:

  • All skills outlined in the Level 1 course criteria
  • Completed and passed the Level 1 instructor qualification
  • A minimum of 35 hours snowsport school experience – shadowing or teaching
What will I learn?

On the Level 2 instructor course you will be coached and assessed on the following disciplines:

  • Your ability to complete technical skills. This includes the central theme, piste short and piste long with specific focus on variable, steep and bumpy terrain.
  • Your ability to teach, understand and analyse the central theme as well as working beyond the central theme and understanding different learning models.
  • Delivery, including communication and providing feedback. Understanding the importance of achieving goals and final reviews.
  • Safety principles and people management in uncertain circumstances.
What will I need?

The Level 2 instructor course is a ten day programme completed in an outside, mountain environment. We would strongly suggest you are equipped with the following basic items:

  • Strong, comfortable ski boots
  • Warm, waterproof jacket
  • Layered clothing
  • Water and light snacks

The Level 3 ISIA course is not for the faint-hearted, it will test your commitment to your chosen career path. However, completion of this level will allow you the enviable position of working full time within an international snowsports school.

What is included?

Starting from £350 per week, we include the following in your package:

All training course fees, including:

  •      Five days intensive training towards your tech and teach modules
  •      Video analysis
  •      Fitness program
  •      Ski tuning advise
What should I know in advance?

To be able to apply for the Level 3 ISIA course, you must be able to demonstrate you have achieved the following:

  • All skills outlined in the Level 1 and 2 course criteria
  • Completed and passed the Level 1 and 2 instructor qualification
  • A minimum of 200 hours teaching experience
What will I learn?

On the Level 3 ISIA programme, rather than learning disciplines, you will be coached by our team to pass a number of modules:

  • Alpine Level 3 ISIA teaching course – focus on all aspects of understanding, delivering and safety
  • Alpine Level 3 ISIA technical course – focus on all technical aspects of the central theme
What will I need?

A number of the Level 3 ISIA course modules take place in an outside, glacial environment. We would strongly suggest you are equipped with the following basic items:

  • Strong, comfortable ski boots
  • Warm, waterproof jacket
  • Layered clothing
  • Water and light snacks

The Level 4 ISTD course is the last step required to complete your qualification. Passing this will allow you to have the snowsports career you have dreamed of, working in either a school or as an independent.   

What is included?

Starting from £350 per week, we include the following in your package:

All training course fees, including:

  • Five days Level 4 ISTD tech and teaching course
  • Intensive and concentrated training from qualified level 4 coaches
  • Video analysis
  • Ski tuning advise
  • Fitness program
What should I know in advance?

To be able to apply for the Level 4 ISTD course, you must be able to demonstrate you have achieved the following:

  • All skills outlined in the Level 1, 2 and 3 course criteria
  • Completed and passed the Level 1, 2 and 3 instructor qualification
What will I learn?

On the Level 4 ISTD programme, rather than learning disciplines, you will be coached by our team to pass a number of modules:

  • Level 4 ISTD teaching course – focus on all aspects of the central theme and beyond, performance analysis and learning
  • Level 4 ISTD technical course – focus on all technical aspects of the piste and different terrains
What will I need?

A number of the Level 4 ISTD course modules take place in an outside, glacial/mountain environment. We would strongly suggest you are equipped with the following basic items:

  • Strong, comfortable ski boots
  • Warm, waterproof jacket
  • Layered clothing
  • Water and light snacks

Program

The Zermatt Work and Train program is an awesome opportunity to gain 180 hours of training with video analysis and weekly German lessons in resort. On top of that you will be employed by PDS Snowsport for the Peak Weeks and any busy periods when you are not training.

BASI LEVEL 1
SKI INSTRUCTOR 

If you hold your Level 1 Basi or alternative qualification you will be able to shadow and improve your teaching skills.

BASI LEVEL 2
SKI INSTRUCTOR 

With a Level 2 the Work and Train programme allows you to work during the Peak Weeks of the season and start to progress through required ‘hours’ of experience required for Level 3. It’s also a great way of earning whilst you progress through your qualifications.

ISIA LEVEL 3
SKI INSTRUCTOR 

Even as a fully qualified instructor there is still so much left to learn. Need some work on your tech skills for a Level 4 Tech or some gates for the Eurotest? Get in touch and we can see how the Work and Train program could work for you!

BASI-TRAINERS

Whats Included?

With so much on offer here is a breakdown of what you have to look forward to…

180 hours of training spread over the winter season around your work opportunities. Thats a massive 6 weeks of training 30 hours a week with some of the best coaches around.

In order to make sure your training is second to none, we will never go over 10 per group. Whilst aiming to keep the ratio of trainees to trainer as low as possible.

In order to be part of the team you’ll need a PDS Jacket, we’ll have one waiting for you in resort so you can be part of the team straight away.

All you need to bring is some Black Salopettes to complete the outfit!

Need help settling in to a new resort? To help you navigate Zermatt’s rich plethora of fancy restaurant menus we have weekly German sessions included in the Work Train program.

Great prep for the second language test at ISIA!

The program does not include your lift pass, travel, accommodation and insurance. Once you are a member of the team, you will be eligible for a reduced season lift pass and we will assist you in finding accommodation alongside our other trainees.
